TB Screening Questions

Incoming and re-admitted students are required to complete the Tuberculosis (TB) Screening Questions

Please follow these instructions:

1. Log into the eTang portal . Click on Medical Clearances from the menu on the left side of the page. Click on the Update button next to TB Screening Questions.
2. There are five questions to which you must respond yes or no.
3. After submitting the TB Screening Questions, you may be required to submit additional testing and/or documentation. If that is the case, you will see a notice that says “Further Action Required” and you will be sent a message on eTang the next day with instructions on how to proceed.
   1. If you have been asked to submit TB testing:
      1. TB blood tests (Quantiferon and T-spots) are strongly preferred to TB skin tests (PPD) in people who have had the BCG vaccine.
      2. TB testing must be done on or after August 1, 2023, for incoming Fall 2024 admits (on or after June 1, 2023, for Summer 2024; or on or after January 1, 2023, for Spring 2024 admits)
      3. You can use the UC Berkeley TB Test Results Form or documentation provided by your medical provider. Documentation of your TB test must include the following:
         
         1. Your name in English
         2. Your date of birth
         3. Date of TB testing
         4. The type of TB test (Mantoux PPD, IGRA, QuantiFERON-TB, or T-Spot)
            1. Other types of TB tests will not be accepted, including antibody or molecular tests
            2. The BCG vaccine does not satisfy this requirement

            A positive TB test means that you may be infected with TB bacteria. A positive TB test MUST be followed up. This will usually be by a chest x-ray. A chest x-ray can help determine the difference between active TB disease and latent TB infection. Latent TB is treatable. Treatment can prevent you from becoming sick and contagious with TB disease.
